From the arrivals hall to the Engadin.
This is the drive for anyone landing at Zurich with a week in the Engadin ahead: skiers with boot bags, families on the winter holidays, guests for White Turf or the Snow Polo World Cup, and in summer walkers heading for Corviglia and Corvatsch. Others leave from the city, from a hotel or an office, after a morning of meetings. If you are booking for a guest or a colleague, the traveller and the payer can be different people, or a company.
The train is the scenic option, and with skis and suitcases it means two changes, at Zurich main station and at Chur, before the Albula line climbs into the Engadin. With a chauffeur the bags are loaded once, in the car park a few steps from arrivals, and unloaded at the entrance of Badrutt's Palace, the Kulm or a chalet above Champfèr.
The drive takes about three hours, door to door, and the car is yours for all of it. The road crosses the Julier Pass, kept open all year, and the chauffeur checks it before leaving. The return works the same way in reverse, from the hotel entrance to the terminal. For event weeks in winter, send the dates as soon as you have them.
The road over the Julier Pass.
From the airport the driver takes the A3 motorway along Lake Zurich and the Walensee, joins the A13 at Sargans and leaves it after Chur, at Thusis. From Tiefencastel the road climbs through Savognin and Bivio to the Julier Pass, at 2,284 metres, then comes down to Silvaplana, where St. Moritz is a few minutes along the lake.
The Julier is kept open all year and is the usual road in winter too. On the days when snow closes it, the way round is the Vereina tunnel. In summer the Albula Pass is another road over. The whole route is in Switzerland, with no border to cross.

All vehiclesFor the Julier in winter the SUV is the class to book: a Range Rover, Mercedes GLS or BMW X7, with all-wheel drive and room for five passengers and five bags. A family with skis, boots and a week of luggage often needs more space than that. The Van Standard carries seven people with seven bags; the Van First Class carries six, with lounge seating, four seats facing each other and a table, which suits a meeting on the way up.
Two travellers with light luggage are comfortable in Standard Class or in First Class, a Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series or Audi A8 with rear screens and tinted windows, for three passengers and three bags. Teams and groups travel in the 12-seat van or the 14-seat minibus, and larger groups on two vehicles. On request there is also a Maybach S-Class, a Maybach GLS 600 or a Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II.

From Zurich arrivals to your door
The driver waits after customs, at Arrival 1 or Arrival 2, with a tablet showing your name or your company's logo, and the car is parked a few steps away. The driver's details reach you before you land. On the way back, the car is at the hotel entrance at least fifteen minutes early.

How long does the drive from Zurich Airport to St. Moritz take?
About three hours in normal traffic, for about 215 km. On winter weekends and after fresh snow, allow around three and a quarter.
What if snow closes the Julier Pass?
The car goes round through the Vereina tunnel, on the car train from Klosters to the Lower Engadin, which runs all year and adds time to the trip. The driver checks the pass before leaving, so the route is settled before you get in the car.
Can you pick me up in Zurich instead of at the airport?
Yes: at a hotel, an office, a private address or Zurich main station. From the city centre the drive is about 205 km, a little shorter than from the airport.
Do you drive to chalets outside the village?
Yes, to the door: Suvretta, Champfèr, Silvaplana, Celerina, Pontresina. Write the exact address and any directions for the access road in the notes. The quote is calculated on the real address, so a village a few kilometres further on is already in the price you approve.
We travel with skis. Which vehicle should we book?
Up to five people with skis and normal luggage fit in the SUV. A family with skis, boots and suitcases for a week is better off in the Van Standard, for seven, or the Van First Class, for six.
How early should I leave St. Moritz for my flight home?
Count about three hours of driving, more on winter weekends, plus the time your airline asks for before departure. The driver is at the hotel at least fifteen minutes before the pick-up time, and you can ask for the return in the same quote as the outward trip.
Can we stop on the way?
Yes. Tell the office when you book: a coffee, lunch in Chur, an errand on the way. A stop that changes the route or adds time can change the price.
Are child seats available?
Yes, free of charge, added in the second step of the booking. Write the child's age and weight in the notes.
